A Field I'd Like to Live

"Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,
there is a field.
I'll meet you there.
When the soil lies down in that grass,
the world is too full to talk about.
Ideas, language, even the phrase each other
doesn't make any sense."
Rumi~

I came across this poem the other day in a compilation book of poetry, By Caroline Kennedy. The book of poems that she so lovingly put together is called; She Walks In Beauty. It was chosen by my amazing book club this year, and I am so glad that it is now a part of my library.
It is quickly becoming one of my favorite poetry books.
And this poem by Rumi is one that has been lingering inside my noggin for many reasons.

The first reason that I think it's lingering is because I love the idea of "live and let live."
Have you ever heard of that phrase?
It's a classic Ellen quote.
"Live and let live."
Or
"To each his own."
Or
"Whatever floats your boat."

The second reason that I think it's lingering is because it's so hippie-ish,  so John Lennon imagine-ish sounding. I realize that hippie-ish and imagine-ish are not words, but I would just like to say that sometimes I like to add ish to words to make them sound more important-ish! ;)

"Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field."

You could say that like this...

"Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world..."

I get why people who are realist, pessimists, or whatever you want to call yourself might get annoyed by poems and songs like these, but to an eternal optimist who is still full of HOPE for humanity I like to linger in poems like this one.

And in the words of Forest Gump...

"That's all I have to say about that."

Or in my own words,

That's all I have to say-ish about that-ish.

This was awesome-ish. My kids have been in the need of answers lately. Answers I dont have. I Told them I am going to just say yes to whatever they ask, but they shouldn't be disappointed when that answer is completely untrue. Because of this post, I think I will now answer them "yes-ish"

Thanks for sharing the poem - I really enjoyed it. And sometime today-ish I will take some time to reflect on those insights. LOL But seriously, thanks for sharing your insights on the comparison between the poem and the song. :)

You go on with your bad-ish self and add -ish to the end of words if you want to!

Oh by at first I was going to put bad self-ish, but then I realized that selfish is a real word and had the total opposite meaning of what I was trying to go for here . . . so anyway there you have it my random thinking for the day!
