Thankful Thursday

This thankful thursday morning I am happy to report the flu bug has left the building.
I managed to escape it's clutches this time, Thank YOU Jesus, but the rest of my (minus Em) family did not. It was a gnarly bug this one and I'm so glad that even though it came on hard, it left fast.

I'm thankful for sisters. My sisters and I group text on a daily basis and sometimes a note from them can change the whole course of my day. It is a relief to know that they are always praying for me and they always have my back. Jenny and Gina are two women in this life that make me feel like I'm the richest woman on planet earth. Not with material possessions, but rich with love and devotion. They remind me that even though my girls might squabble as all teen girls do they eventually will come back around and remember they have a best friend for life.
Sisters.
I heart them.

I'm thankful that my terrible,  horrible, itchy, scratchy, no good, very annoying, rash is also on it's way out of my life, I hope and pray never to return. It has been lingering for 3 weeks now, and although it was not totally painful it was beyond annoying and bothersome, so I'm glad it's loosing it's strength and leaving me a weakling in it's wake.
I'm thankful for brothers. My brothers Jeremy and Greg are two men in my life that constantly remind me of the JOY that is BOY. Raising two boys, and seeing their friendship develop is really another thing that I'm grateful for. It reminds me of scriptures that say, "There is a friend that sticks closer than a brother" which is in reference to our friendship to Jesus. That means a brothers friendship must be pretty darn close to be closer to us than the Lover of Our Souls.
Brothers.
I heart them.
And finally, I'm thankful for My Giant. He works faithfully, and consistently to provide for this big family and I am grateful for his leading. I'm thankful for his character and that it is one I can admire and be proud of.
I'm thankful that he knows Jesus, and loves Jesus, and honors Jesus. I'm praying for him with a group of other women who are going through the book The Power of A Praying Wife, by Stormie Omartian.
If you want to join along, I will be posting here my highlights from the book, every Wednesday for the next month.
What are YOU thankful for this thursday?

Happy Birthday To My Sister Jen

I interrupt this Wednesday's usual Love/Hate link up to bring you one of my all time heroes in life;
My Sister Jenny.

Today is Jenny's birthday  I would just like to take this opportunity to do a little blaggin about her.

She's the beautiful bride in the above photo. On the left is my younger sister Gina, then my Momma, and Me.
I really could go on and on about all 3 of these women in that photo, because they are all so unequivocally amazing, but today is Jenny's day so let me do some blaggin(blogging+bragging) about my sister Jen.

Ever since I can remember I have looked up to my sister Jen.
If Jenny was playing with a toy I wanted it.
If Jenny was going somewhere I wanted to go with her.
If Jenny was singing a song I tried to sing with.
You get the idea.
Early on in life I know I was a real pain in the butt  and had a bit of the Copy Cat syndrome stuck up in my bones.
Poor Jenny.
I think it's a typical younger sibling kind of thing to look up to your older sibling with adoration.
But, there was a brief moment when I remember I didn't want to be like her.
When we were teens, well she was a teen I was probably a 12 year old tween, Jen had a rough patch in life.  To quote one of my favorite movies, "She was an angry little Elf."
It's crazy to think about now but there was a time when around every corner she seemed to be getting in trouble, and with passion.
And then like a switch that was turned on her life changed.
She came to know Christ in such a way that her little sister was left wondering what happened to Jenny?
She truly was a new creation in Christ.
You see, the thing about Jen is that she does this LIFE whole heartedly.
She is not your stick your toe in the water to see if its warm kinda gal.
Oh no, she is go jump in off the diving board full force and then find out whether the water is warm enough kinda gal.
COMPLETE opposite of me, but it is without a doubt what I love about her so much.
And it is what I admire most about her relentless pursuit to know her Savior.
From the moment she could choose her life's course
She's like this;
I think I'll move to Tulsa OK the day I turn 18 to go to college
Then I think I'll move to LA
Then maybe I should move to Europe(Hungary, Budapest to be exact)  where I don't know anyone and don't know the language.
I think now I'll take up Triathlons.
Sure, yeah, let's DO THIS!!
Never a worry, never a care she just goes and does whatever it is in heart to do.

And now that we are older, wiser, and I hope more mature
I still admire her for those reasons.
Sometimes I wonder if she is ever afraid of anything.
She has been my biggest cheerleader
My longest friend
My sister in word
and in deed.

Happy Birthday Jen
I love you more than words
could ever say

Being Okay With That Person

I woke this morning thinking about a conversation that I had yesterday while on the phone with my sister. We were walking and talking. It's how we do. I was telling Jenny my older sister that I heard a wise woman once say,  "You will spend half your life finding out who you are, and the other half being okay with that person."  I totally agree with this statement, and would say that I am almost to the other side of it. Almost being the operative word in that sentence. I feel everyday as I inch closer and closer to my forties a certain calm come over me.  It's not that I feel I was totally obsessed with what other people thought, but I was totally obsessed with what other people thought.

As I've gotten older and had many a conversation with The Lover of My Soul, and My Giant about this I have realized that in my lifetime I think I have spent more time wondering and worrying what others are thinking, than I have spent having my own thoughts.

That is the truth of who I was.

And now as I think about where I am right now, I still have the tendency to be concerned if people will like me or not. Although I recognize this tendency, it doesn't make it any easier to change.  I guess I would like it to be categorized as The People Pleasing Gene. I would like to believe you are either born this way or you are not, because then it makes it easier for me to swallow that pill.

Some are people pleasers.
Some are not.
I am a people pleaser that comes from a long line of people pleasers.
My Giant is not a people pleaser he comes from a long line of non- people pleasers.

I see the good in both.
I see the bad in both.
Somewhere in there, people pleasing and not people pleasing there is neutral ground. A Switzerland if you will of somewhat pleasing people and some what who gives a flying flip people.

Do hear what I'm saying?
So the other half of that wise woman's statement is what I am working toward today. I feel I have a pretty good handle on who I am at the ripe old age of 37 and now it's just ...

Being okay with that person.

I recognize my need to please.
And ya know what, I'm okay with the years I have spent doing so. It's what has brought me to this place.
But, at the very same time I want, I seek, balance in all things.
I'm ready to be okay with the person that I am, but not become complacent either at the same time.

Does that make sense?

Now read this statement again,

"You will spend half your life finding out who you are, and the other half being okay with that person."
And think about it through the eyes of health, fitness and your looks. It takes on a whole new meaning doesn't it?
Maybe a topic for another day.
I thought of character traits when I heard it.
Sister Jen thought health and fitness.
That's why it's good to have a sister.
They help change the way you see the world.
Thankful for my sisters and my brothers this morning and for YOU!

What are your thoughts about that statement?

Favorite Captured Moments #2

In the Spring of 2011 the Scofield home became an official teenage home. That is we officially have a teenager now. So many people warned us about this moment when our lives would forever change. We were nervous. Not really.

Well, what I want to know is when did she

Turn into her

It goes by way too fast people. That's all I am saying. And you know that saying you don't ever know what you got until it's gone well it's true. When I was younger and my sister and I would fight and bicker about clothing items or what radio station we should have playing in our room I never thought in a million years that there would come a day that I would long to share a room with her again. That's where my girls are at. They don't know what they have.

I am here to remind them. Someday they will be grown women who will say to their children when they are fighting, "Love Each Other" or "Tell each other 'you're my best friend'! They will do as I have done. Repeat the words my mother said to me. Teach as I have taught.

So I kinda cheated by using some old photos to prove a point here but you'll forgive me.

What a PEST , BUDA is

My sister Jenny left today for Budapest, Hungary. I am sad. I know that she is doing what she needs to be doing and that it is only for a while(a long while) but I am still sad. I will miss her so much. For some reason this year was harder to say goodbye than last year.

I am thankful however, that we have the summers memories to get us through this next year. I am also very much aware of the sacrifice it takes to have missionaries for family members. Not so much to be a missionary but I could imagine somewhat. Anyway, I pray for all those who are living the life they feel God had called them to live AND for thier families.

me and my sister/friends!!!

So this is a picture of me and my beautiful sisters that I love so much. Being with them both is like Christmas for me, all in and of itself.
My older sister Jenny bought these hats for me and my younger sister Gina for ourDecember birthdays. In true girl dorky form we were so excited to all have matching hats but no where to wear them so we decided to go parading around the mall.
The funniest part was when a black man came up to us and asked us where he could get one, I almost couldn't contain my laughter, cause I did feel like a bit of a poser in the hat.
They are a true sign that Jen has been livin in LA for way too long and needs to move home!!!
Now, because I know that she will probably read this I don't want to sound ungrateful or anything and so in defense of the hat it is very, very warm and I most certainly will wear it again because of that.
Jenny is in Lavita right now on a ministry trip so if you would pray for her, health, clarity of speech, and bonding with the people she will be ministering to that would be much appreciated.
